8 Unique Conference Venues
Neutral walls, a ceiling projector, and seemingly endless rows of identical chairs. Even if you try to mix things up with new furniture in round tables instead of theater seating, it's easy for things to become monotonous or repetitive year after year when it's time for a conference. Here are 8 unique conference venues where you can find new inspiration and energy for your next meeting.
1. In the Treetops
At Treehotel, an hour outside of Luleå, you can hold a conference in a well-equipped meeting room six meters up in the treetops. The Dragonfly tree room is 53 square meters and accommodates groups of up to 12 people. Escape everyday stress and meet in total tranquility with a stunning view of the northern Swedish nature. This environment definitely opens up for creative meetings.
For a lighter version, you can book treehouses on the roof of MOOD Stockholm. Award-winning treehouses can accommodate 8 conference participants.
2. At Sea
Birka's Kajplats 155 at Slussen offers an unbeatable view of Saltsjön, Gamla Stan, and Skeppsholmen. Here, it's not just a waiting hall for cruise passengers but also four conference rooms, 800 square meters for events, and a large rooftop terrace that can be booked for pleasant summer mingles or parties. If you prefer to take the conference to sea, the cruise ship has 16 conference rooms with the archipelago as a backdrop. Onboard, it's easy to keep the group together around the clock, with no risk of your conference participants straying from the meeting. After work, there's entertainment and recreation as well as accommodation just around the corner, all at a competitive price. For a really large meeting, it's possible to charter the entire ship!
3. On Your Own Island
Hold a conference on your very own island in magnificent archipelago nature. At Silverskär, Åland, total work peace is promised – the only potential distraction is the occasional soaring sea eagle. The meeting rooms, all equipped with fiber or wifi, are located in different houses and are suitable for both larger and smaller groups. Up to one hundred people can participate in day conferences, and groups of up to 47 people can also stay overnight. On the neighboring island Klobben, there's a recreated fishing village in genuine style. A unique meeting place with a soul and atmosphere of its own.
4. In Historical Style
Kastellet Stockholm is a medieval romantic thick-walled tower building with roots in the 1660s. With its location on Kastellholmen in central Stockholm, you are close to both water and archipelago feeling as well as city pulse. The tower building and its two wings now house two conference floors, with several different rooms for 4-50 people. From the meeting rooms and the two adjoining terraces, you have a magnificent view of Gamla Stan, Djurgården, and Södermalm. Don't forget to check that the three-tailed Swedish flag is waving at the top of Kastellet! It has been raised every day since the 1660s, as a symbol that Sweden is at peace.
5. On Stage Like a Star
At Oscarsteatern in central Stockholm, you are far from dull conference rooms with white walls. The beautiful theater hall in green and gold is just as suitable for a conference as for a grand theater. Experience the feeling of standing on the same stage as some of Sweden's foremost actors in this unique conference venue. With a capacity for up to 947 seated guests, large groups can be accommodated here, but smaller groups can also meet without it feeling empty, as the hall is divided into three sections with the option to only use certain parts. Start or end the conference with mingling, lunch, or dinner in the beautiful golden foyer.
6. Underground
25 meters below the surface at the KTH Campus was Sweden's first nuclear reactor, the experimental reactor R1. Today, the reactor is decommissioned, and the reactor hall is used as a museum, cultural center, exhibition hall, and seminar venue. Madonna recorded the video for "Nothing Really Matters" here, and Cullberg Ballet, Riksteatern, and Radiokören have performed here over the years. Researchers have called the reactor hall "The Cathedral of Science," so perhaps the venue is especially suitable if your company focuses on science or technology. Don't worry, radiation levels are now below established limits, and the venue is classified as safe, so no risk of your conference participants glowing in the dark.
7. In a Pop-Up Truck
Let the meeting come to you! This mobile conference venue is housed on a truck bed. Park the truck on a cliff by the sea, at home in your driveway, or out on a beautiful meadow if you feel like it. 10 people can conference here, but remember the truck must be stationary before you start your meeting!
8. Anywhere - Walk & Talk
Maybe you don't even need a conference room for your next meeting? Spring is coming, and the weather is becoming more pleasant. Try a "Walk & Talk" meeting and feel the creativity flow with the increased blood circulation. The advantages are many: meetings become effective, you get fresh air, light, and exercise. This method works for both small groups and large ones – divide everyone into pairs or smaller groups that then go for a walk to reflect and discuss a certain topic.
Mark out a walking route that you know takes a certain time to walk, or ask the groups to turn back halfway – if they need to be back after 40 minutes, they can set an alarm on their mobile for 20 minutes.
